In-Office Contact Lens Disinfection Guidelines

Nov 13, 2019 | Optometry HQ Announcements

There have been recent inquiries regarding acceptable practices for the cleaning and disinfection of multi-use contact lenses in the eye clinic for fitting purposes.  While there is no specific policy that relates directly to contact lenses, this email contains various documents and links that may be considered by the eye clinic staff and SPD office of a local facility as an SOP is considered and developed at the local level. While these documents do not come from any contact lens manufacturer, they do take into consideration the guidelines provided by the various companies. Also, note that FDA approves the use of 2% H2O2 and the contact lens documents recommend 3% H2O2 (so while not listed by FDA, it goes beyond that recommendation).
