Budget Neutral Optometry Residency Educational Enhancement – New Programs – Request for Proposals

The VHA Optometry Service National Program Office, in conjunction with the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), invites applications for the development of new optometry residency programs.  This budget-neutral request for proposals (RFP) is not intended to expand the overall number of optometry resident position offerings within VHA, but is designed to discern a hierarchical list of programs who desire and are prepared to start a new optometry residency program in Academic Year 2023-2024 if funding becomes available via redistribution during this anticipated budget-neutral year.  Existing, accredited, funded programs do not need to reapply.

This process is required by OAA for new programs and managed by the VHA Optometry Service National Program Office with input and participation from OAA.  Please see the attached RFP for more details and specific requirements.

Only complete proposals containing the required documents delineated in the application instructions will be considered. Proposals should be submitted via email by the VAMC Designated Education Officer (DEO) or Associate Chief of Staff for Education (ACOS/E) to scott.slagle@va.gov with a carbon copy email to Ms. Gernhart (Kathleen.gernhart@va.gov) no later than July 1, 2022.

Please contact Dr. Slagle and Ms. Gernhart if you have any questions regarding this new proposal process.

Thank you to all for your efforts in caring for Veterans and to those who contribute to optometric education!
