HPT Spotlight Story
Sarah Afromowitz, PsyD, earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University. Dr. Afromowitz has received training at the Portland VA, Eastern Oklahoma VA and is currently a Psychology Postdoctoral Resident with the Atlanta VA Health Care System. VA has been integral in helping Dr. Afromowitz discover what she is most passionate about throughout her career and has significantly shaped who she is as a psychologist. From immersing herself in suicide prevention work at the Portland VA, to learning several evidence-based practices and advanced assessment skills at the Eastern Oklahoma VA, and furthering interest and training with women Veterans at the Atlanta VAHCS, her training experience has impacted her career.
“What I find most memorable about my VA training has been the support and guidance I have received from several phenomenal supervisors, many of whom I have actively stayed in touch with beyond my training year. Additionally, I appreciate the ability to provide holistic and comprehensive care, which is made easier by the ability to consult with other health care providers within the VA system. I find it incredible that even as a trainee, I have been met with respect and encouragement from other providers within our vast network, beyond those within the mental health service line.”
